Maxwell’s gearing up for his return to the spotlight after a five year hiatus with his anticipated Blacksummers'night follow up LP, Summers. Along with hitting the road this summer on the “Summer Solstice” Tour (dates here), the soulful music vet spoke with the Associated Press to catch up on his whereabouts for the past few years as well as future ventures, which includes tying the knot and having children.
Summers was supposed to be released in 2010, but was pushed back due to various life happenings. "I lost my cousin. I lost a lot of things. I lost a lot of friends,” he said.
Those things, along with the fact he turned 40 made him open his eyes to a lot of things. “I came to realize so many good things about people that were always really there, and then so many bad things about people who really weren't. When you turn 40 and when you cross a decade, God shows you the truth and you just sort of have to take it and run with it, and basically make the right choices, and that's kind of where I'm at right now. I think that's why the album can come out now."
As for the future, Maxwell is planning big things; for one, his album Summers is coming this fall, and he’s working on an EP with Alicia Keys following their hot collab “Fire We Make.” He’s also recorded a song with Jennifer Lopez, whom he calls “an American success story” and “the original stunter.”
Aside from music, though, he’s planning on getting hitched and maybe having a baby. “This year is really about the people, it's really about focusing on putting out the music, and taking myself to another level in life. Hopefully getting married, having kids — the whole thing," Maxwell said. "I mean, it's not my ovaries, so I can't really plan that, but it would be great."
No word on who the lucky lady is, but could it be TV personality Julissa Bermudez? The two were spotted earlier this year going for a lovey romp on Miami Beach.
In related news, Maxwell was sighted earlier this week (Tuesday, June 3) at GQ magazine's celebration and photo exhibition in honor of the 2014 World Cup and the June issue of GQ at Milk Gallery in New York. It looks like he was having a ball, check out some snaps below.
