The video of Solange attacking her brother-in-law Jay Z in an elevator, which was watched by viewers around the world, no doubt put her on the map. Before, she was often thought of as just “Beyonce’s sister,” or not known at all (especially to mainstream media), but her name can now (unfortunately) stand alone, all due to her angry rampage the world witnessed from the elevator surveillance video. But is it really a bad thing?
According to Nielsen Soundscan data reported on HipHopDX, digital sales of Solange’s music spiked after the leaked video; the following week, 2,000 tracks were sold up from 600 from the prior week.
Since the quarrel, Solange, Jay Z and Beyonce have released a public statement stating the beef was handled in private and has been squashed.
"As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it," the statement said.
Guess it’s true…there’s no such thing as bad publicity!
