Janelle Monae is heading back to Brazil following her Rio 2 contribution "What Is Love" by being the face of Pepsi’s global 2014 futbol campaign “Now Is What You Make It.” As the official ambassador, the feisty songstress is a part of a commercial in the 2014 World Cup host city Rio De Janeiro in which she covers David Bowie’s 1977 tune “Heroes.”
The video chronicles the lives of children who are victims of bullying, and the way they unite to become heroes to combat the perpetrators.
“We all loved the original so much, however we wanted to put some Atlanta in it, some down South in it, and a little bit of Rio in it and make it our own. We love David Bowie, and he’s a fan as well, so we just wanted to make him proud,” she tells Billboard about her remake.
"Heroes" can be found on Pepsi Beats of the Beautiful Game LP, which drops on June 10, and is "the world's first visual soundtrack made up of 11 anthemic songs and companion short films, or 'filmtracks,' that capture the indelible spirit of the world's most popular game — football [soccer]."
