If you had any doubts that Pharrell’s love and respect for women is fake, this should sway your opinion. The "Happy" hitmakers reverence is magnified, filling his new colorful video “Marilyn Monroe” with all colors, shapes and sizes of the females of the species…it’s a celebration of all things women!
At the same time, the hitmaker addresses the backlash he’s received for supposedly not having a black woman on the cover of his album G I R L, (which Pharrell later explained the woman standing nearest to him is black, just of a lighter complexion). The single artwork for “Marilyn Monroe” is the total opposite of the late blond starlet whom the song is titled after; instead Pharrell opts for the beauty of another kind…a direct answer to the backlash regarding colorism.
