Nicki Minaj says her new natural look and music is “not a makeover, it’s just coming full circle,” but for those looking in from the outside, it’s clear the hip-hop star is making a massive transition, even if it’s coming into her real self. We say massive because before the colorful wings and costumes, alter-egos, and so forth, many people were not up on game.
“I went so far to the other side that there's only one place to go from there,” Minaj told MTV on Monday while promoting The Other Woman. “You can either continue doing costumes or you can just say, 'Hey guess what? This will shock them even more. Doing nothing will shock them even more… I really kind of let things happened gradually.”
To compliment her natural look, Minaj, who recently released the new songs “Lookin' Ass” and “Chi-Raq,” says she’s back to her hip-hop roots.
“I don't think it's something that I'm necessarily trying to do. It’s like as soon as I started working on my new album, that's just the songs that I've been writing,” Minaj says about the new music.
Minaj also adds that there are other types of music on the project that she’s “super excited for,” and confirms the release of a new song in the coming weeks. “I’m just gonna do what my heart tells me to do,” she adds.
As far as “other types,” Minaj says “hell no” to anything sounding like ‘Super Bass.’
