Anita Baker is fighting back over a lawsuit, which saw a bench warrant issued for her arrest.
As previously reported, a decorating company sued the soul legend, claiming she failed to pay the balance for renovation work done at her home in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. A warrant was issued for Baker’s arrest after she failed to make a court appearance last month (March 2014), but it was later dismissed after she claimed she was not aware of the legal action suit.
A new hearing was set for April 25 after Wayne County Circuit Judge Edward Ewell ruled the lawsuit could still go ahead, and now Baker is also filing a countersuit.
Her attorney claims Ray Smith Painting and Decorating "intended to put her in as embarrassing a light as possible".
The company is suing for $15,000 for carpentry, plastering and painting work done in 2009.
