Through August Alsina’s “My Testimony” docu-series, the New Orleans native reveals tidbits of information about his life and the making of his debut LP Testimony. About track number 12, “Mama,” Alsina reveals the lyrics are actually words from his own mother verbatim.
“Everybody got a mom, you wouldn’t be here without your mother. And one thing I learned from my mama is a mother’s love is unconditional …so of course I had to show love to my mama on the album. The second verse of that song really wrote itself; it was just a text message from my mama, and I just transferred that over to the song so she probably gon be hitting me up for some pub money or something (laughs).”
