Baltimore, Maryland native CJ Hilton recently released his Salaam Remi-co-produced project Sextape in January, but he resurfaces today to recreate the sounds of the late Marvin Gaye to commemorate the soul singer’s 74th birthday (April 2) with a remake of 1973’s “Distant Lover” and his own original, Marvin-inspired dedication “Modest.”
The 25-year-old singer-songwriter-producer's version of “Distant Lover” sounds very similar to the original, so much so, you may have to do an audio double-take, and "Modest" flawlessly re-creates the melody and vocal layering that Gaye coined; like it could be a remake of a cut from his 1971 album What’s Going On.
