Aloe Blacc's goal is to focus on the craft of music and not necessarily on the chart success of songs like "The Man."
In a clip from NBC's "The Voice" he and Adam Levine discuss the music industry as well as personal goals and the admirable success of Kendrick Lamar.
"One piece of advice I would give to new artists is develop your perspective. What is it that you're trying to achieve? What is your goal? At the end of the day, what do you want to be able to tell your grandkids? That'll help you figure out what your perspective is," Blacc says in the clip below. "Mine is Songwriters Hall of Fame. So that way I'm not worried about chart status or awards. I just want to make sure my peers appreciate what I've done as a songwriter."
