It's Pharrell's time. The award winning producer that has brought us countless hits has officially stepped further into the spotlight with a number one charting debut for "G I R L" in the UK.
Seeing his international star rise in wake of the Grammys, the Oscars and BRIT Awards, Pharrell is not only atop the albums chart. His single, "Happy," is riding high on the singles chart.
According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, G I R L has become the fastest selling artist album of 2014 so far, clocking up nearly 70,000 sales in the last seven days. It beats previous record holder, Bruce Springsteen’s High Hopes, which sold over 48,000 copies during its first week on sale back in January.
"The British public’s love affair with Pharrell Williams is showing no sign of letting up! The US singer/songwriter and producer scores his first ever Number 1 album in the UK today with his second solo full-length, G I R L," reports The Official Charts Company. "The news comes just a week after G I R L’s lead single, Happy, smashed though the million copies sales barrier to give Pharrell his third UK million-selling single in less than twelve months."
Even though it's down one spot since last week, "Happy" is still moving strong on the UK Singles Chart at no.2, only behind the debut of Route 94's "My Love."
As previously reported, Pharrell's "G I R L" is projected to sell up to 95,000 copies in the U.S. Official sales figures will be released later this week.
