Mariah Carey's anticipated album, "The Art of Letting Go," has had a few adjustments over the years, including some songs that have been completely scratched.
According to songwriter/producer Bryan Michael Cox, the album has come together in an organic form, slowly like a "honey baked ham."
"Life happens, and that added to the organic process of making this album. Over the past couple of years we've added songs, scratched songs, slow-baking this record like a honey-baked ham. And when you take a bite of that ham — people will be extremely and pleasantly surprised," Cox told Billboard of Carey's album in a recent interview.
Her first studio album to be released since "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel," "The Art of Letting Go" has been on the table for years.
Now due for May 6, a lot is riding on the album, which is led by the recently released single "You're Mine (Eternal)."
According to Bryan Michael Cox, the project is "a mashup of what's new, a melange of R&B, hip-hop and pop plus the classic melodies and lyrics we know her for."
