Yesterday morning (Jan. 23), father of superstar Mary J. Blige, Thomas Blige, 63, was stabbed in the neck following a domestic dispute between him and a former girlfriend in Battle Creek, MI, reports police officials. His conditon is labeled as critical.
A woman named Cheryl Ann White, 50, who reportedly lives in the same apartment building, was taken into custody at the scene and charged with assault with intent to murder. Detective Sgt. Jim Martens said officers then went to the former girlfriend's nearby apartment and found her in blood-spattered clothing. She is being held at Calhoun County jail.
Neighbors say that Blige and White have outwardly argued before, but this incident stemmed from an argument that escalated after Blige confronted White for slashing his tires. Michael Thomas, Blige's roommate, told NBC Grand Rapids affiliate WOOD-TV that he found Blige on the kitchen floor, "bleeding profusely" from stab wounds to his throat, side and arm. "I had to grab towels and cover the wounds the best I could until the rescue came," Thomas said.
White was charged with aggravated domestic violence after she hit Blige in the head with a glass candlestick in October. She was placed on six months probation for that incident just weeks ago on Jan. 10, and was ordered to have "non-assaultive" contact with Blige.
While Mary has said in the past that her and her father aren’t close, this must still be upsetting. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Blige family.
