In just a few months Grammy and "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood will make her debut in the anticipated reincarnation of "The Sound of Music."
NBC began promotion for the upcoming television event Monday, which will air live December 5 and feature, in addition to Underwood, Tony Award winners Audra McDonald, Christian Borle and Laura Benanti.
According to NBC, the event will be three hours in length and is based on the original 1959 Broadway production of "The Sound of Music," which starred Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. In 1965, "The Sound of Music" was adapted for a film and opened in theaters starring Julie Andrews.
Carrie Underwood will portray Maria von Trapp.
"The Sound of Music Live" is due to premiere Dec. 5 on NBC.
