Jennifer Hudson has had some challenging roles over the years, but she says her forthcoming role in "The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete" was really tough because she has never taken any form of drug, unlike her character.
"It terrified me to play that part because I had no reference point," Hudson opened up in the latest issue of Manhattan Magazine, where she discusses playing a heroin addict in the film alongside Jordin Sparks, Anthony Mackie and Jeffrey Wright.
According to Hudson, drugs and drinking are simply not part of her life.
"I'm 31 and I've never, ever, ever had a drink or done a drug in my entire life. I stick with Diet Coke and Crystal Light and water," Hudson shared.
So, how did J-Hud prep for her role? According to the Manhattan, two recovering addicts shared their stories and taught her the mannerisms of users.
"That was extremely brave of them. They’re sitting there, telling me all these things about being incarcerated and losing their children—and who am I? I’m still a stranger to them," Hudson said of the experience.
"The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete" is due in theaters October 11.
