An Illinois man who spent time in jail for stalking Grammy winner Ashanti didn't learn his lesson the first time. David Hurd was indicted on Friday in state Supreme Court in Manhattan for harassing and stalking the former Murder Inc. songstress again.
According to the AP, a prosecutor in the case claims Hurd violated an order of protection after he sent over 100 tweets to the "Never Should Have" singer on Twitter between Sept. 2012 and last weekend. Some tweets were reportedly sexual.
35-year-old Hurd was sentenced to 2 years in jail back in February 2010 for sending harassing photos and messages to Ashanti's mother.
He is being held on $750K bail and will be arraigned next month.
You may remember Devar Hurd from his infamous conviction for stalking the Grammy-award winning singer Ashanti. Well, it seems that he has not learned his lesson and is back in jail for more harassment.
Hurd was initially convicted of stalking Ashanti in 2009 after sending her hundreds of sexually explicit messages and showing up at her concerts uninvited. He served two years in prison before being released in 2012, but his obsession with the singer did not end there.
Despite being ordered to stay away from Ashanti, Hurd continued to harass her online and even showed up at one of her events in 2013. Now, he faces new charges of criminal contempt for violating the restraining order against him and is back behind bars.
Devar Hurd’s Initial Conviction for Stalking Ashanti
He’s back in jail for more harassment, but let’s not forget that Devar Hurd was first convicted of stalking Ashanti.
It all started in 2009 when Hurd began sending Ashanti explicit messages on social media. He even went as far as to show up at her record label’s office with a teddy bear and a bag full of money. Ashanti was forced to get a restraining order against him, but Hurd still continued to stalk her online and in person. He would show up at her concerts and events, causing her to fear for her safety.
Finally, in 2019, he was sentenced to serve time in prison for his actions. Despite being released from prison earlier this year, Hurd could not stay away from Ashanti. He once again began harassing her online and showing up at her public appearances. This led to him being arrested once again and back behind bars for violating the terms of his parole.
It’s clear that Hurd has not learned his lesson and continues to pose a threat to Ashanti’s safety.
Devar Hurd’s Continued Harassment and Arrest for Criminal Contempt
You may be interested to know that despite previous legal consequences, Devar Hurd has once again been arrested for defying court orders and engaging in further unwarranted behavior towards his victim.
Hurd was convicted of stalking R&B singer Ashanti in 2009 and was sentenced to two years in prison. However, he continued to harass her even after his release from prison.
Hurd’s latest arrest comes as a result of criminal contempt charges related to violating an order of protection that required him to stay away from Ashanti and her family. He was caught sending her explicit messages on social media platforms, which is a clear violation of the court order.
This is not the first time Hurd has been arrested for violating the order of protection; he has repeatedly ignored it since its issuance.
The case against Hurd is ongoing, but this latest incident highlights the seriousness of stalking and harassment cases. Victims should never have to live in fear or constantly look over their shoulders because someone refuses to respect their boundaries.
The justice system must continue to hold individuals like Devar Hurd accountable for their actions and protect victims from further harm.
Conclusion
So there you have it – Devar Hurd, the convicted stalker of Ashanti, is back in jail for more harassment. Despite being sentenced to two years in prison in 2019 for stalking and harassing the R&B singer, it seems that Hurd hasn’t learned his lesson.
He was arrested again on charges of criminal contempt after violating a restraining order that prohibited him from contacting Ashanti or her family. This case serves as a reminder of how serious and devastating stalking can be. It’s important to take these threats seriously and seek help when needed.
Hopefully, this latest arrest will finally put an end to Hurd’s obsession with Ashanti and provide some peace of mind for both her and her loved ones.
