Beyonce and Jay Z joined Al Sharpton and Trayvon Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, during a protest in New York City Saturday.
Joining thousands protesting the verdict in the George Zimmerman murder and manslaughter trial, including rallies and protests in Miami and Atlanta, the couple showed support for justice. Beyonce's mother, Tina Knowles, was also there in support of the rally.
"They need to change the laws that we all know need changing, because they don’t work for us," Sybrina Fulton told the crowd in New York. "I am still the proud mother of Trayvon Martin. Today it was my son. Tomorrow it might be yours."
As reported last week, Beyonce dedicated a performance to Trayvon Martin at a show in Nashville. Jay Z did the same during a show at Yankee Stadium, with Justin Timberlake, Friday.
As widely reported, there is now a push to have the Justice Department investigate civil rights charges against Zimmerman. Al Sharpton also told supporters, in New York, that he wants to see a rollback of stand-your-ground self-defense laws.
George Zimmerman was acquitted of all charges last Saturday in a Sanford, Florida court room. Five female jurors, some mothers, found him not guilty of second degree murder and manslaughter, allowing him to walk free.
