Patrick Lovato, "X Factor USA" judge and recording artist Demi Lovato's father, has passed.
The news broke late Saturday, following a post on Twitter from Demi's sister, Dallas.
"Rest in peace daddy. I love you," wrote Dallas Lovato.
It's unclear what might have led to Lovato's death at this time, but he had been battling cancer.
As early as 2011, Demi Lovato had spoken about the turbulent relationship she had with her father, which was also documented on her 2011 song "For The Love of a Daughter."
In the breakthrough song, she sang "Oh father. Please father. Put the bottle down."
Speaking of the album and song during a promotional jaunt, Lovato told The Daily Mail "The lyrics are self-explanatory about my relationship with my estranged father whom I haven’t spoken to in five years. I wrote it when I was 16 and getting it out is like therapy."
Patrick Lovato and Demi's mom, Dianna, divorced in 1994. Patrick had long been vocal about his daughter's entertainment career and the struggles she endured as a child star.
In related news, Demi Lovato bowed out of an "X Factor USA" appearance over the weekend. She has not released a statement about her father at this point.
