‘Sunday Best’ Winners, Tamar Braxton Set For Celebration of Gospel

BET is prepping a supercharged celebration of gospel music with talent including "Sunday Best" winners Le'Andria Johnson and Joshua Rogers.

The network recently announced plans for its 13th season of BET "Celebration of Gospel" that will also include a performance from R&B singer/reality personality Tamar Braxton.

With musical director Ray Chew at the helm, you can also expect performances from Israel Houghton & New Breed, Dorinda Clark Cole, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Karen Clark Sheard, and Yolanda Adams .

Other chart-topping artists ready to raise the praise are gospel super stars Kierra “Kiki” Sheard, Isaac Carree, Canton Jones, Da T.R.U.T.H., Charles Jenkins & Fellowship Choir and "Sunday Best" finalist Jessica Reedy.

In addition, multi-award-winning artists Dr. Bobby Jones, Kurt Carr, Donnie McClurkin and Rance Allen will lead the way in a high-energy, all-star tribute to the undisputed “King of Gospel Music,” Reverend James Cleveland. Each gospel great scheduled to appear was inspired not only by Reverend Cleveland’s music, but also by his charity, vision and ability to mesmerize audiences with his riveting live performances.

“Celebration of Gospel” tapes at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 16, 2013 and airs on BET on Sunday, April 7, 2013.

The ‘Sunday Best’ winners and their mentor, Tamar Braxton, are getting ready for a celebration of gospel music! For the past 12 years, Gospel music fans have been tuning into BET’s Sunday Best to see some of America’s up-and-coming singing talents. This year’s winner, Joshua Copeland, along with all the contestants from this season and their mentor Braxton will be celebrating in style at the upcoming Celebration of Gospel event.

Braxton has worked hard over the last several months to guide her charges during one of its most competitive seasons yet. From mentoring them on song selection to helping them prepare for performance night – she was there every step of the way. Now it is time for these talented performers to show off all they have learned and take center stage at the Celebration of Gospel event.

Gospel Music lovers everywhere can look forward to an amazing evening filled with praise and worship as well as powerful performances by both Copeland and his fellow competitors. It promises to be an unforgettable night that you won’t want to miss!

Overview Of Event

The celebration of gospel is an event honoring and celebrating the Christian faith, its music, and its traditions. It’s a time for people to come together in fellowship and joyously celebrate their beliefs through song and dance. Each year, the show culminates with the crowning of Sunday Best winners who have shown exemplary talent throughout the competition phase. This year’s top two finalists are Tamar Braxton and Koryn Hawthorne, both talented singers that bring something special to the stage each week.

As part of this year’s finale, viewers can expect performances from some of Gospel’s most beloved artists including Hezekiah Walker & LFC, Travis Greene, Jekalyn Carr, Kirk Franklin and more. The show will also feature appearances from popular celebrity guests such as Fantasia Barrino-Taylor of American Idol fame; Grammy Award nominee Ledisi; R&B star Kelly Price; and award-winning actor/comedian Cedric “The Entertainer”. With so much star power on one stage it promises to be an evening full of soulful singing and uplifting entertainment!

Highlights Of Performances

Hezekiah Walker & LFC will get things started with a rousing rendition of their hit song “Every Praise” – sure to bring the house down! Travis Greene and Jekalyn Carr will follow up with soulful versions of their respective singles “You Waited” and “It’s Yours.” Then it’ll be time for Kirk Franklin to take center stage as he brings his signature sound to the celebration.

The celebrity guests are also sure to deliver show-stopping performances throughout the evening. Fantasia Barrino-Taylor is set to perform her latest single “Enough,” while Ledisi sings her Grammy nominated track “High.” In addition, Kelly Price and Cedric “The Entertainer” have promised special appearances that promise to be full of energy and humor.
