Brian McKnight is back and the decision to return to music was not as hard as some might think. Following a controversial 2012, filled with drama over his attempt to do something a little different [cue: "Ready To Learn (P***y Works)"], McKnight returning with another album was a no-brainer considering the fact that he had never stopped writing.
"I really didn’t think I would have this much to say anytime soon. And when the label came to me to say, “would you like to do another record,” I said, “Well I got these sixteen songs sitting here, so let’s do it.” And that was pretty much it…I never stopped writing, it’s just the way that the business is now you just try to find a different model," said McKnight. "But once I started writing I said to myself, “Maybe, I’ll do one more, let’s see what happens. Let’s see if the world is ready for another one.” So we’ll see."
With the title "More Than Words," McKnight says the album, as a whole, "feels real good."
In related news, Brian McKnight is close to signing a deal for a new play. While he didn't elaborate at the time of his interview, he alluded to it being a pretty big deal.
"I’m about to sign a contract right now [I can’t go into details about it] to do this play that will take me away until the summertime. But other than that I’m going where the wind blows and I’ll figure it out when I get there," said McKnight.
"More Than Words," the album, is due in stores April 2 (via eOne Music).
