The Dream Signs on to Co-Executive Produce Def Jam Singer August Alsina’s Album

The brash style of Def Jam newcomer August Alsina caught the attention of The Dream, who aside from being an artist/songwriter, is an A&R at Def Jam. "He understood who I am as an artist and as a person. I think that’s really what it’s all about, having someone that understands," August told ThisIsR&B. The Dream has signed on as the co-executive producer of the New Orleans native debut album. "He’s involved in everything that I do. I go play him my sh*t and we just vibe."

August is currently working on two projects, 'The Product II' mixtape and his forthcoming LP. The first song leaked off of the mixtape, "I Luv This Shit," is assisted by labelmate Trinidad James. A music video is planned to accompany the record. According to Alsina the studio album was done before he signed the Def Jam contract, but he continues to tighten loose ends. "Ni**as only see what they see by the eye and don’t really know a ni**a, but that’s what I’m doin with the album, showin there are different sides to a ni**a. I’m a youngin and I’m a human being, so you can just expect to get to know me and really just get to live my life through the music."

The 'The Product II' is tentatively scheduled for March.
