Recent three-time NAACP Image Award nominee Elle Varner is excited about renewed energy and interest in the R&B genre.
When asked about her success this year, as well as names like Miguel or Frank Ocean, Varner told The Grio “the current class of R&B is like a volcano set to erupt.”
Even though she is proud of this new wave of talent, Varner is focused more on “true artistry” in music instead of putting her music or brand in a box.
“I would like to focus my attention more on just true artistry as opposed to R&B,” said Varner.
In related news, the “Refill” singer is nominated for three NAACP Image Awards including Outstanding New Artist.
The 44th NAACP Image Awards take place Friday, Feb. 1 on NBC.
