Just one day after debuting her new single “Girl on Fire” at the MTV Video Music Awards, Alicia Keys performed for a worthy cause at the Stand Up 2 Cancer (SU2C) Benefit telethon last night (Sept 7). Her hair slicked back in simple elegance, Keys opened by saying, “This is for all the beautiful people in my life and yours who are fighting a war against cancer. And suddenly, all that matters is love. I pray that we win.” She then effortlessly delivered an intimate performance of “Not Even a King,” a sincere ballad that speaks of an immense love that’s richer than the riches of royalty.
The live Stand Up 2 Cancer telethon simultaneously aired on many major networks including ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, broadcasting commercial-free for the first hour, with all proceeds going to cancer research.
