Fresh off the release of her new single and music video for “Enough of No Love,” Keyshia Cole is taking her music “back to the basics.”
“I had to go get me a few songwriters so we can get back to the basics. This is the first time I worked with so many different songwriters,” Cole says of her new album featuring collaborations with Red Stylez and possibly Ester Dean.
Following songs that connected with fans like “Let It Go,” “I Remember” and “Heaven Sent,” Cole admits there were fans that came to her and said they want the “old Keyshia” back after her last two albums failed to resonate. Because of that she had to take a step back and re-evaluate what music would be best for album.
“You married, but we not married… you need to get back to the old Keyshia. I respect it. A lot of people aren’t happy. For you to look to somebody and say you was our encouragement and motivation to get over these dudes that ain’t no good, like where you at with it,” Cole said during an appearance on BET’s 106 & Park. “So I took myself out of the equation this time around and I focused on my fans. I just want to make sure that they’re going to be happy.”
With her album due in October, Cole is just happy to still be in the business doing what she loves.
“I’m happy my fans can share this journey with me. I mean this is my dream. I love doing this. My husband, my son now… I’m taking it to new heights. I really do love you guys and I’m so thankful,” says Cole.
On top of the album, Keyshia and her husband, NBA athlete Daniel Gibson, will appear on the BET series “Family First.” That series, like her album, is due in October.
