Lenny Williams is a music mogul, who has been producing R&B and soul since the 1970s. His music has transcended generations, captivating audiences of all ages with its smooth vibes. Known as “Grown Man Music”, his sound has evolved to fit whatever era he finds himself in while still keeping true to his signature style. Let’s take a deeper look at this legendary artist and find out what makes him so special!

Born Leon René Williams on February 6th 1945 in Little Rock Arkansas, Lenny Williams was exposed to gospel music from an early age and it soon became part of his DNA. He began singing professionally when he joined a group called The Violinaires before moving on to join Tower Of Power (TOP) in 1972. It was during this time that TOP would produce their first two albums which were filled with classic hits like “You’re Still A Young Man”, “So Very Hard To Go” and many more.

After leaving TOP in 1974, Lenny went solo and released three studio albums over the course of his career; Spark Of Love (1974), Choosing You (1977) and Rising To The Top (2001). These projects helped cement him as one of the most beloved artists in the world of R&B and Soul music. His work has had lasting impact across multiple generations due to its timelessness – something that only truly talented musicians can pull off successfully. With such an impressive body of work behind him, let’s dive into what makes Grown Man Music so special!

Biography

Lenny Williams is an American R&B singer and songwriter known for his soulful and passionate vocal style. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 14th 1945 he began singing gospel music at the tender age of 5. His talent was quickly noticed by a local record store owner who offered him free recording sessions to showcase his talents.

Williams moved to Los Angeles as a teenager where he honed his craft as part of the group Tower Of Power before eventually embarking on a solo career that would see him release five studio albums between 1975 and 1985. He scored several hit singles including “Cause I Love You”, “You Got Me Running” and “Shoo Doo Fu Fu Ooh!” which earned him two Grammy nominations during this period.

In recent years Lenny has been focusing more on live performances, playing intimate shows across the country while releasing occasional EPs with new material such as 2017’s Grown Man Music EP featuring covers of classics like Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On” as well as original songs dedicated to the struggles of everyday life. Despite being 73 years old now, there is no sign of Lenny slowing down anytime soon; with his voice still strong after all these years, it looks like we can expect plenty more quality grown man music from him in the future.

His five studio albums included 1975’s Spark Of Love, 1977’s Choosing You, 1979’s Rise To The Occasion and 1985’s Let Me Be Your Hero. He also released several EPs such as 2017’s Grown Man Music EP which featured covers of classics like Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’ as well as original songs dedicated to the struggles of everyday life.

He even performed a special version of Melba Moore’s classic “This Is It” as part of Quincy Jones’ charity project Songs In The Key Of Life: A Celebration For Stevie Wonder.

Throughout his entire musical journey, Lenny Williams has remained true to himself and continued to deliver soulful performances that touch people deeply.
