Brandy Gives Advice, Talks Relationship and Daughter After ‘Put It Down’ Performance

People are still talking about how Brandy “Put It Down” on her first performance of her single of the same name on Wednesday July 18th at the Howard Theater in Washington D.C. After the debut performance, the R&B vet sat down with the founder of The Brandy Blog, Vaughn Alvarez, to discuss her daughter Sy’Rai, how she met her beau, and gives advice for those going through hardships.

The singer has said in the past that she wants to keep her daughter Sy’Rai out of the spotlight for as long as she can. But a few weeks ago, she tweeted a heartfelt note from her daughter, highlighting their close bond. At just the mention, her face shows all that can be described as love. “It’s huge,” she says. “She loves me cause I’m just me, it’s unconditional.”

And when it comes to love, the singer says she finally found a guy that likes her for herself. In a never-before-heard account of how she met her beau Ryan Press, Brandy expresses how the two were inseparable after the first date after contact through a mutual friend. “He called a mutual friend of ours, had to set the record straight, [he was like] ‘she thinks I’m married, I’m not married.’ So he called me, and was like ‘I’m single, let’s go out,’ and we went out, and been together ever since,” she exclusively dishes for the first time.

And having gone through her many personal trials, Brandy offers words of encouragement to those going through their own hardships. She reassures “you’re bigger than you’re problem, you can overcome anything…focus on the light at the end of the tunnel…faith is visionary, not blind.”
