Grammy Award winner R. Kelly has been forced to cancel several appearances due to health reasons.
According to a statement from Kelly’s publicist, the “Write Me Back” singer was in route to New York Wednesday morning, became ill and was forced to return to Chicago for medical treatment.
“While on his way to New York this morning to celebrate the publication of his long-awaited memoir SoulaCoaster, multi-platinum R&B superstar R. Kelly was taken ill and had to return to Chicago for medical treatment,” explains a rep for the R&B star. “Initial indications are that he is suffering from complications from surgery he had last year to treat an abscess on his vocal cords.” Kelly was to make several appearances this week in support of anticipated releases “Write Me Back,” his new album, and “Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me,” a memoir.
Appearances on The Jimmy Fallon Show, Today (NBC) and more have all be canceled, as have book promotional events. It is unclear how long Kelly will be in treatment. His rep offered an apology for the cancellations, “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.”
As widely reported last year, he underwent surgery to treat an abscess on his vocal cords.
“Write Me Back” and “Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me” are both available now.
