In 2004 Mary J. Blige launched her record company Matriarch Records, which released ‘The Breakthrough,’ Growing Pains,’ ‘Stronger with Each Tear,’ and ‘My Life II…The Journey Continues.’ Within the past couple of years, the Queen of Hip Hop-Soul has been grooming two new talents Starshell and Katlyn Nichol.
Starshell was the first introduced with records “Superluva” and “Birthday Girl,” as well as the recently leaked remix of “Superluva” featuring Big Sean and Kayne West that is garnering attention on web.
With momentum building for her first artist, Blige invites music enthusiasts to Katlyn Nichol. The teen singer met Blige on the way to discuss an opportunity with another different record label, but luckily she connected with her idol and secured a recording contract with Matriarch.
A reason Mary J. made the decision to add Katlyn Nichol to her roster was the way she saw herself in the young artist. “I remember being that little girl from the projects not even knowing this was going to happen,” said Blige. “That is why I had to reach back, I’m gonna introduce y’all to somebody who is that little girl.”
Katlyn Nichol is currently touring the country and will appear at the Essence Music Festival with Diggy Simmons and the OMG Girlz.
