Donna Summer Soars on Billboard Charts

Donna Summer’s discography including “On The Radio: Greatest Hits Vol. 1 & 2” received a major sales increase over the last week.

Following her death on May 17, Billboard reports four of Summer’s albums returned to the Billboard 200 chart Wednesday.

“She re-enters the list with her former No. 1, “On the Radio: Greatest Hits Volumes I & II” at No. 73. It sold 6,000 copies last week — a gain of 10,761% over the previous seven days,” reports Billboard. “She also debuts on the list with “Endless Summer: Donna Summer’s Greatest Hits” (No. 90 with 5,000; up 43,045%), re-enters with “The Journey: The Very Best of Donna Summer” (No. 95 with 5,000; up 3,819%) and bows “Greatest Hits” (No. 194 with 2,000; up 3,842%).”

In terms of songs, Donna Summer sold at least 187k downloads last week – more than twice the amount she had all year.

While many songs sold well, Billboard confirms “Last Dance” received the larger share with 38,000 copies downloaded. “On The Radio” followed with 19,000 copies sold.

Summer was 63 at the time of her death last week.

Donna Summer was a pop music sensation in the 1970s and 1980s. She combined elements of disco, funk, soul, rock and jazz to create her signature sound that captivated audiences around the world.
