Several new albums are attempting to grab the same success as blockbuster movie the “Avengers” in its opening week. Mary Mary raised their media profile by starring in their self-titled reality TV series, while Tank leverages guest features from T.I and Chris Brown. Lastly, newcomer Michael Kiwanuka, associated with 8-time Grammy Award winning singer Adele, is enough to make you pay attention to his music.
Mary Mary – Go Get It (Columbia)
Erica and Tina Campbell, better known as Mary Mary, drop their seventh studio album ‘Go Get It.’ The duo launched their own reality television series “Mary Mary,” but remain rooted in music, releasing a compilation album featuring new single “Go Get It” along with remastered fan favorites “I’m Running,” “Sunday Morning,” “Shackles (Praise You),” amongst nine other tracks.
Tank – This Is How I Feel (Atlantic Records)
Tank is right on time with the release of his fifth studio album ‘This Is How I Feel,’ as he is burning up Singersroom’s Top Singles with “Compliments” and “Lonely.” If no one else is fighting for love in music today, Tank is. According to the “Next Breath” singer, people don’t fight to preserve relationships today. Taking that into consideration with his new album, Tank hopes to show men being in love and taking care of your woman is an obligation not an option.
Michael Kiwanuka – Home Again (Polydor Records)
UK transplant Michael Kiwanuka was given a chance at recording a solo album after working as a session guitarist for Chipmunk and Bashy and touring with Adele. With a solid resume cemented, Kiwanuka pulls from his musical inspiration including Bill Withers, Otis Redding, Pops Staples, The Band, Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan for his debut album ‘Home Again.’
