Adele’s ’21’ UK Sales Surpass Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’

Continuing to dominate the charts and break previously set records, Adele has managed to accomplish quite a feat by outselling the King of Pop’s classic ‘Thriller’ album in the United Kingdom.

Adele’s Grammy-winning album ’21’ has officially passed Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ album, and takes the fifth spot, on the UK’s best-selling albums list, according to Martin Talbot from the Official Charts Company.

“To add to her many landmark records, Adele’s achievement in overtaking ‘Thriller’ in the all-time sales list is truly remarkable,” said Talbot. “‘Thriller’ has long been recognized as one of the most iconic albums of all-time.”

He added: “There is now no doubt that ’21’ can be spoken of in the same breath.”

To date, Adele’s sophomore effort has sold 4,274,300 copies in the UK, 500 more than MJ’s 1982 classic.

According to BBC, the official top 10 biggest-selling albums in the UK rank as follows:

1 – Greatest Hits – Queen

2 – Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band – The Beatles

3 – Gold: Greatest Hits – ABBA

4 – (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? – Oasis

5 – 21 – Adele

6 – Thriller – Michael Jackson

7 – Brothers In Arms – Dire Straits
