Despite laying low, Adele continues to dominate the charts with her sophomore opus ’21,’ which is well on its way to reaching diamond status.
Having already sold 20 million copies worldwide, the RIAA has certified the LP to be 9x platinum as it has surpassed the 9 million units sold mark in the United States alone. This puts ’21’ to be the best-selling U.S. release since Usher’s 2004 album, ‘Confessions.’
To this date, ’21’ has been at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 for its 23rd time, making it the longest chart-topping project since Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ album in 1985.
Meanwhile, Adele has amassed a total of 24 career weeks at No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart, with 23 weeks for ’21’ and one week for her debut album ’19.’ She now holds the same chart record as Bob Dylan, who has also spent 24 career weeks at the top.
