Jill Scott & Queen Latifah Lead All Black Cast for ‘Steel Magnolias’ Remake

Hollywood has noticed the success appeal of films starring African American actresses, with movies like “The Help,” so a plan to remake 1989’s “Steel Magnolias’ with a black cast is in the works.

Key names that have been cast include Queen Latifah, signed to play M’Lynn, and serve as an executive producer. Jill Scott will take part as Truvy, Condola Rashad as Shelby, Phylicia Rashad as Clairee, Alfre Woodward as Ouiser and Adepero Oduye cast as Annelle.

Kenny Leon, the director of “A Raisin in the Sun,’ is expected to start filming the project next month in Atlanta.
