Celebration of Gospel is back! BET announced plans to air the 12th Annual Celebration of Gospel this week, packed with a stellar line-up including both Gospel and R&B greats.
In addition to performances from Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Fred Hammond and Marvin Sapp, the network has tapped R&B powerhouses Faith Evans, Kelly Price, Ledisi and Jennifer Holliday.
While it is unclear what the latter four will be performing, their confirmed appearances give way for a likely rousing tribute to Whitney Houston.
“Two moving tributes are planned in recognition of the life and legacy of the “Mother of Gospel Music,” four-time Grammy-award winner, civil rights activist, and vocal powerhouse Mahalia Jackson and to honor the memory of legendary entertainer, Whitney Houston, whose singing gift was anchored in her gospel roots,” reports BET.
Steve Harvey returns as host when Celebration of Gospel airs Sunday, April 1 at 8pm.
Johnny Gill, The Rance Allen Group, James Fortune & FIYA, 2012 Grammy-award winner Le’Andria Johnson (Sunday Best), Jessica Reedy (Sunday Best), Earnest Pugh, Isaac Carree, Moses Tyson Jr. Ricky Dillard & New G, Zacardi Cortez, Maurette Brown Clark and Mali Music round out the list of performers.
The Game’s Wendy Raquel Robinson and Bobby Jones will also participate with spoken word selections.
According to Nielsen, Celebration of Gospel has remained the #1 Gospel/Religious telecast since its inception.
