Defense lawyers for William Balfour, the man charged with murdering Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew in 2008, want her to provide testimony.
According to local reports, defense attorney Amy Thompson made a request to speak with Hudson in Cook County Tuesday, hoping to discuss a text message she exchanged with her mother the day she was fatally shot.
Thompson is reportedly seeking to have Balfour’s arrest thrown out, claiming he was not doing anything illegal when officers arrested him after tracing his cellphone to a girlfriend’s apartment following the murders.
State Attorney James McKay however claims Balfour constantly threatened to kill Hudson’s sister, Julia, in the days leading up to the murders. Julia allegedly let him use the family’s bathroom hours before he allegedly returned and killed her mother, brother and son.
The judge is expected to rule on whether Balfour’s arrest should be thrown out Tuesday, February 14. As previously reported, a trial has been set for April.
