Band History
The rock band, U2, has been making music and performing for over 30 years. They have become a household name in the United States as well as around the world, with their songs reaching millions of fans. The group is celebrating three decades of success by embarking on a tour across America to commemorate this milestone.
U2 first formed in 1976 when four schoolmates – Bono, Larry Mullen Jr., Adam Clayton, and the Edge – got together to form the band. Despite having no prior experience playing instruments or singing professionally, they quickly developed a unique sound that combined traditional Irish folk music with alternative rock. This combination made them stand out from other bands of the time, leading them to be signed by Island Records in 1980 and releasing their debut album Boy shortly after.
Since then, U2 has gone on to produce fifteen studio albums and win 22 Grammy Awards while selling more than 150 million records worldwide. While many members have come and gone throughout its history, original founding members Bono, Mullen Jr., Clayton and the Edge remain today as one of the most successful groups ever assembled. Their latest venture marks a major career milestone for all involved; an anniversary tour that will bring some of their biggest hits back into stadiums across America during summer 2016.
