After portraying much of her life struggles through her music, Mary J. Blige recently revealed to CBS News that she originally had reservations about her marriage to Kendu Isaacs.
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has been open about her life struggles and notes that being sexually abused in the past has affected her relationships as an adult. Because of this, Blige originally doubted that Isaacs really loved her.
“Even after I was married, I still couldn’t believe it, that it was real,” Blige reveals to CBS News. “And he really did love broken down, little old me. ‘Cause I just never saw myself like the woman that a man like him would want.”
“Because my past was just horrific. I felt ashamed about everything. Me dropping out of high school, me not, you know, just not being beautiful enough. I just didn’t feel like I was smart enough or beautiful enough, you know, for years,” she adds.
Blige and Isaacs married back in 2003 in an intimate ceremony.
Blige recently released her tenth studio album ‘My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act I)’ as a sequel to her classic 1994 opus ‘My Life.’
