Beyonce’s Pregnancy Announcement Sets Twitter Record, VMAs Ratings History

King B has been the talk of the web since announcing her pregnancy at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (August 28). According to social network portal Twitter, the R&B star helped set a new record for the most tweets per second, logging 8,868. The previous record took place during the final moments of the U.S. women’s soccer game versus Japan in July, which registered 7,196 Tweets per second.

In addition to setting the Twitter record, Beyonce also helped MTV set several other network accomplishments. According to AdAge, the 2011 MTV VMAs drew a record 12.4 million total viewers. The network also saw record online viewership of the event, with 2.3 million video streams for the day. Also and MTV Mobile gained huge lifts in viewership.

Beyonce performed the track “Love on Top” during the awards ending with a bang as she drops the microphone, opens her shirt and rubs her baby bump with a huge smile.
