Since his feature appearance on Miguel’s hit single “All I Want Is You,” J. Cole has continued to create a buzz for himself, with the latest of being the opening act for Rihanna’s “LOUD” tour.
Though the Roc Nation rapper hasn’t had the chance to really sit down and get any learning tips from the singer, J. Cole sees RiRi’s hardworking ethics to be motivational.
“I observe from afar how hard she works. She works hard,” J. Cole tells Singersroom. “I watch her set [on the tour] a lot. She has a very long show; I’m sure it’s tiring. I know after she gets off the stage, she does meet-and-greets and whatever. She’s a hard worker. I see that.”
Another busy artist that has caught J. Cole’s attention is Cee-Lo Green, who was also an opening act for the tour before dropping out due to his own hectic schedule. However, Cole is still holding onto hope in getting a feature from the “F— You” singer for his debut album.
“Well, I’m still waiting on Cee-Lo right now. He’s so busy; I can’t really blame him,” J. Cole reveals. “But I really want Cee-Lo on this record. It’s a huge record.”
The rapper also explains that his debut project will “sound like growth, like evolution” and will be even better than his previous mixtapes. He goes on to describe it as not being “the normal rap that’s going on right now, but it’s still very, very good,” and will include “storytelling, emotions, and the [money] stunting” tracks as well.
As for what J. Cole has planned for after the album release, fans can expect to see the “Who Dat” rapper touring for the entire next year.
“I plan to be touring for the next entire year. I plan on getting a solid week off for the next whole year,” he says. “After the album drops, we’re going to Europe. Of course we’re gonna tour the states and Canada [too]. I already have the whole blueprint for the year after the album drops.”
But his main focus now? Promoting his debut album ‘Cole World: The Sideline Story’. “The summertime will really be the time where I shine. Now that I have the date, I can really go in marketing-wise and promotion-wise, and I’m excited. September 27th! September 27th!” J. Cole declares.
