The wheels are beginning to turn for Aretha Franklin’s planned biopic film. After receiving the financial backing, the Queen of Soul has her eye on Patina Miller, the star of Whoopi Goldberg’s musical “Sister Act,” for the role of the young Aretha.
“Finally we’ve got the financing, we’ve got the right producer,” Franklin recently stated. “I’m waiting for the script… And there’s a new girl in the game now – Whoopi’s little girl from ‘Sister Act’.”
Franklin has been on the lookout for someone to play her after Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry turned down plea offer. Along with the Miller, she also has her eye on some music industry veterans.
“There’s (also) Fantasia Barrino, there’s Jennifer Hudson, and then the producer has some ideas,” Franklin states.
The “Respect” singer plans to check out Miller’s talents in person when she visits “Sister Act” on Sunday.
Denzel Washington and Terrence Howard are also on Franklin’s list of actors for the film.
