Michael Jackson’s Estate has reached a deal with Melissa Johnson’s Heal the World Foundation over an infringement and unfair competition suit. The late King of Pop’s estate sued Johnson after she launched the foundation in 2008, six years after the “Thriller” hitmaker’s own charity, also named the Heal the World Foundation, closed its doors.
According to estate executors, the new company had no real link to Jackson, even though the superstar’s mother, Katherine, had agreed to work with Johnson and encouraged Michael’s three children to get involved.
The two parties struck a deal on Monday (April 18) and according to TMZ, Johnson was granted permission to use the late singer’s name and image in association with the charity, while Katherine has been made a member of the board of directors to oversee the foundation’s work.
