R&B crooner Ne-Yo previously voiced his frustration over, Libra Scale, his “poorest selling album to date,” insisting âthere was so much going on in regards to this album.â
âWriting the script, making sure it was good, shooting videos and being too hands on with the director, the artwork and everything,â voiced Ne-Yo.
Now in a recent interview, the âOne in a Millionâ hitmaker says his decision to focus on story-style promos rather than the music is also a reason for the setâs failure. He tells the Associated Press, “I didn’t get to pay as much attention to the music as I normally would because I was so focused on the story line that the album is based off of.”
He continues: “There was so much energy put into that, that when it came time to put the music together, you know, for one there wasn’t as much time and for two there wasn’t as much energy.”
Ne-Yo also states time filming his role in new alien invasion film “Battle: Los Angeles” may have detracted from the record, “I was kind of back and forth with [both projects]. It’s almost impossible to take the amount of focus to shoot a film like this and the amount of focus it takes to put an album together and do them at the same time…”
To date, âLibra Scaleâ has sold just 277,000 copies since its release in November 2010, and singles including “Beautiful Monster” and “Champagne Life” both failed to scratch the Billboard top 40.
All in all, Ne-Yo insists he has no regrets about trying something different, stating, “Libra Scale was my opportunity to do some things I’ve never done before… I’m not in any way saying that I think the album is bad. I don’t think the album’s bad at all, I think it’s a pretty solid album… Some people got [and understood] it. Some people didn’t. The majority of people didn’t.”
Ne-Yo is one of the most iconic R&B singers and songwriters of our time, with hits like ‘So Sick’, ‘Miss Independent’ and ‘Closer’. His 2010 album ‘Libra Scale’ was an ambitious project that didn’t quite make a splash in the industry as he had hoped, despite its impressive production and collaborations. Now, Ne-Yo has taken some time to reflect on what went wrong – and why it failed. In this article we’ll take a look at Ne-Yo’s explanation for the failure of ‘Libra Scale’, along with his insight into the impossible schedule leading up to its release. We’ll also explore how this experience shaped him as an artist today. Get ready to dive deep into the world of Ne-Yo!
Overview Of ‘Libra Scale’
Libra Scale was an album by Ne-Yo that was released in 2010. It aimed to explore the idea of balancing life’s decisions between karma and choice, or “doing what you want versus knowing what’s right.” Unfortunately, it didn’t receive the same level of success as his previous albums had, leading many fans to wonder why. In this article, we will take a look at some of the factors that may have contributed to its failure, as well as Ne-Yo’s own reflections on the project.
One potential factor for Libra Scale’s lack of success could be attributed to Ne-Yo’s incredibly busy schedule prior to the release. He was juggling multiple projects including recording and writing music for other artists while also touring and promoting his own work. This left him with little time to focus solely on Libra Scale and come up with creative ways to promote it before it came out.
Ne-Yo himself has acknowledged these difficulties when discussing the album. He noted that there were just too many things going on at once which caused him not to be able to give enough attention or energy into making sure people knew about the project before its release date. As such, he believes that if he’d been given more time or resources then maybe things would’ve gone differently.
Ultimately though, despite any external issues contributing toward its limited reach, Ne-Yo accepts full responsibility for how things turned out and is still proud of what he created with Libra Scale – even if it wasn’t quite as successful as expected.
Reflection On Challenges Faced
Despite the challenges he faced, Ne-Yo has taken an honest look back on his experience with Libra Scale and the difficulties that led to its lack of success. He admits that while it was a difficult time for him, he wouldn’t change anything because it taught him valuable lessons about setting achievable goals and being more realistic with timelines when juggling multiple projects in the future.
When asked if there were any positives to take away from this project, Ne-Yo responded by saying that although it didn’t meet commercial expectations, artistically speaking it still stands as one of his most creative works to date. He pointed out that sometimes you need to try something different even if you don’t always get the results you want or expect.
He also noted that regardless of what happened during this period, he’s grown so much since then both personally and professionally – which is perhaps the biggest takeaway from his journey with Libra Scale.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it’s clear that Ne-Yo faced numerous challenges while trying to create ‘Libra Scale’. Despite the fact that he had a limited amount of time and resources, he still managed to produce some great music.
Ne-Yo has shown us how difficult it can be for an artist to make a successful album when there are so many obstacles in his way. He took on this task with courage and perseverance, and although the album was not as successful as expected, he is proud of what was achieved.
We can learn from Ne-Yo’s experience and appreciate how hard it can be for an artist to put together an album during such difficult times. As we move forward, let us remember Ne-Yo’s story and strive to support artists who have similar struggles.
