Janet Jackson has just added another check mark to her long-lasting career. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the R&B superstar has signed a production deal with Lionsgate to select, develop and produce a feature film for the independent studio.
Ms. Jackson, who is currently on her âNumber Ones: Up Close and Personalâ world tour, says movies have always been her first love.
âMany people forget I started out as an actor,â she tells THR. âI have been fortunate to work in the film industry, though not as much as I would like. I have a passion for storytelling, and have been doing it through my music for some time.â
Jackson has starred or co-starred in sitcoms The Jacksons, Good Times, A New Kind Of Family, Diff’rent Strokes and Fame. Her first major role was 1993’s Poetic Justice.
âShe is a powerful on-screen presence, with a vast audience, and we believe she will be an equally powerful presence behind the scenes,â a rep for Lionsgate says. âWe are honored to be able to provide a home for her ideas, passion and immense talent.â
A deal with Lionsgate was evident. Jackson has starred in three Tyler Perry films via the production house, including Why Did I Get Married, Why Did I Get Married Too and For Colored Girls.
