CHART NEWS: R&B Songstress Adele Tops Billboard 200 For Second Week

After debuting at No.1 last week selling 352,000 copies of her sophomore album ‘21,’ Adele continues the momentum into week two, moving an additional 168,000 copies to remain on top.

With an official gold certification in just two weeks, ‘21’ is the biggest selling debut of 2011.The set also continues to triumph in Adele’s native UK, securing the #1 spot on the album sales chart for six weeks, selling over 1 million copies and certified quadruple platinum.

Adele’s debut album 19 has also seen a dramatic increase in sales. In the UK 19 is currently at #4 while in the U.S. its shot up to #28 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart. Adele is the first living artist since The Beatles to have two top five hits in both the U.K. singles and album charts, simultaneously.

‘21’ is boasted by the lead single “Rolling In The Deep,” which has been certified Gold by the R.I.A.A. for digital sales in excess of 500,000 downloads and “Someone Like You,” which rose to the #1 spot on the UK charts.

Adele begins a sold-out 20 city tour of Europe on March 21st and then heads to North America for 23 sold-out shows. The North American tour kicks off on May 12th in Washington, DC and runs through June 20th in Nashville, TN.
