Itâs been over five years since soul songstress Goapele released her third studio album âChange It All,â and she has been working on the follow-up ever since. The forthcoming set, âMilk & Honey,â will illustrate Goapeleâs sexiness, as she recently stated, pushing her to do a proper release.
âIâm really excited about it. Iâve been working on it for the past couple of years and itâs a little bolder, lyrically; just showing the range of my emotions,â Goapele tells Singersroom. âThis one is more focused personally.â
Goapele continues, âJust really making sure itâs the right album at the end of the day and put [it] out in the right way. That means a lot to me.â
Another reason Goapele wants to make sure things go right is marketing, an obstacle that she faced with her last effort.
âI wish that the âChange It Allâ album got more support than it did, but I feel like Iâm in a good place right now where I really do feel that Iâm free to make whatever decisions that I want on whatever timeline I want,â she says.

Artist Background
Goapele is an Oakland-based R&B and soul artist who has been making music since 2001. She’s released five albums, with her latest offering being the much-anticipated ‘Milk & Honey’ album in 2019. The project was originally slated for a 2018 release but was delayed due to differences between Goapele and her record label at the time.
The delay gave fans more time to anticipate what would come from this new work, as well as giving Goapele time to really hone in on her creative vision for the project. In addition to having complete creative control over the songwriting process, she also took charge of producing and arranging many of the tracks. This allowed her to take full ownership of every aspect of creating this album – something that wasn’t always possible when working with a major label.
Because of this autonomy, ‘Milk & Honey’ gives listeners an intimate insight into Goapele’s personal journey through different sounds and textures that are unique to her artistry. It is truly a bolder step forward for the singer-songwriter and one that will no doubt resonate deeply with longtime supporters while introducing fans all over the world to her captivating soundscapes.

The album is filled with moments of passion, introspection and growth – something that really comes through in tracks like “Power,” which showcases Goapele’s empowering message about reclaiming one’s power over life circumstances. Other standout cuts include “Lullaby” featuring Omar Apollo, where Goapele reflects fondly on love lost; as well as the steamy duet with Joe Hertz titled “Wanna Be,” which celebrates self-love and romantic connection.
At its core, ‘Milk & Honey’ stands as a testament to Goapele’s creative journey while also allowing fans to join her along the way.
