EXCLUSIVE: Jaheim Talks His Love For Songwriting and First Time at Grammys

After releasing five albums, R&B crooner Jaheim was finally recognized by the Grammy foundation for his art, logging three Grammy nominations for his latest effort ‘Another Round,’ including “Best R&B Album,” “Best Male R&B Performance,” and “Best R&B Song.”

Singersroom caught up with the “Finding My Way Back” hitmaker at the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul 2nd Annual Grammy Brunch and before he broke out into a James Brown dance, he told us he “feels good.”

Jaheim, who attended the Grammys for the first time, says he’s not sure which one of his nominations holds closer to his heart but he loves the songwriting recognition. “I’m biased. I love what I do. I’m about writing. I went from writing 3 bars to writing full songs. I love being a writer,” Jaheim tells Singersroom. “I love putting a story together and hear people say “Man I love that!””

As far as his writing process, Jaheim says it’s a collaborative effort with his team.

“I have a team of writers. I start the mood and push it off and have them add on,” he says. “Or they might come with something and I just add on. Or I just might write the whole song or they might write the whole song! [Laughs] We just come together collectively.”
