R&B crooner Trey Songz is itching at a big celebration. If his single “Can’t Be Friends” continues at the rate its going, the Virginia singer could top Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Jamie Foxx and Maxwell for the longest running No. 1 song on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.
“Can’t Be Friends,â lifted from Songzâs latest effort âPassion, Pain, and Pleasureâ notched its thirteenth week at No. 1 on Thursday (Jan. 27), giving him a feat that only a few of R&Bâs great has accomplished.
Songz is on the chase for Mary J. Bligeâs historical title of fifteen weeks after she logged the achievement in 2006 with her smash single âBe Without You.â Following behind the Queen of Hip Hop Soul is Maxwellâs “Pretty Wings,” Jamie Foxxâs “Blame It” and Mariah Careyâs “We Belong Together,” all tied at fourteen.
In related news, Trey Songz is gearing up for his Valentineâs âLove Faces Tour,â which kicks off February 11th in New York.
