Fashion gets a makeover as Lady Gagaâs meat couture gown is ranked as the number one Fashion Statement of 2010 by Time Magazine. Known for her eccentric and over-the-top wardrobe, Gaga did more than shock fans when she donned a dress, head piece, shoes, and a purse made completely of meat cutlets at the MTV Video Music Awards. Her avant-garde ensemble beat out tennis superstar Venus Williams, British singer-songwriter M.I.A, and R&B diva Rihanna for Timeâs top spot. With such stiff competition, Editors say itâs no wonder how Gaga carnivorous attire made the biggest fashion statement of the year. They write, “If making fashion statements is your primary raison d’etre (reason for existence), it’s easy to get bored. Exploding bra? Flamed out. Dress made of bubbles? Please. Using your hair as a bow? Not again. But a dress made of meat – with shoes, hat and purse to match – well, that’s fresh.” But why this fleshy fashion statement? Was Gaga simply attempting to shock and awe viewers at the September award show or is there a deeper meaning? She says, âIf we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones.â Whether you find her garb to be a fashion faux-pas or an innovative mix of when cuisine meets fashion â Lady Gagaâs infamous cutlet couture has pushed the envelope of style for 2010. What will she âwowâ us with in new year?
