Kandi Burruss is one of the few artist out of the plethora of 90’s R&B groups, to continue fame as a solo singer and businesswoman. With a new album dropping December 14th, a staple reality TV show with The Real Housewives of Atlanta and a prominent songwriter for many acts, Kandi talks to Singersroom in our special “Kandi’s Room,” about the 90’s and staying relevant. “It was a better time in music,” Kandi tells Singersroom. “I feel like the 90’s was the time when the labels really got behind their artists, they push their artists, they worked them and really worked that album. Now-a-days it’s all about the first week sales, if you don’t do what your supposed to do the first week then their on to the next and I think that’s lame because a lot of great music is lost that way.” During the period of Kandi’s former group Xscape’s success, several other groups were also prominent. Running into a lot of those folks today, Kandi says she tries to lend a hand wherever she can even though she know it’s hard. “I do run into a lot of the people that I’ve been cool with since way back in the early 90’s,” she states. “Our group came out in 93. It’s been people that I know that sold way more records that we did…now it’s like where are they now.” “Some people can handle it and they change up, move on and do different things…some people, they’re not in the business anymore, they don’t even know how to get back in the business, it’s like they be trying to figure things out; they be on the verge of suicide…” As one of the few to get back in the business, Kandi says “I really feel like it’s just been God for me because I prey about all these things that I want to do and some kind of way things just be falling into my lap and I just make the best of my opportunities when they come. Adding, “I just know you gotta make it happen when you can.” Watch the entire interview in part 1 of Kandi’s Room below:

The 90’s were a time of great music, fashion and culture. Now in 2020, many people have begun to look back fondly on the decade – especially when it comes to popular music. It was recently reported that Kandi, one of the most iconic singers from this era, believes that the 90’s was a better time for music than today. In an exclusive interview with XX Magazine, Kandi discusses her thoughts on being relevant in modern times as well as how she feels about the current state of the industry.

Kandi has been known for her unique sound since the early days of her career – having released several hits including “No Scrubs” which became a cultural phenomenon. She later went onto become a successful songwriter and producer who worked with artists like Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, Pink and more. Her impressive resume combined with her strong opinions makes this upcoming interview something you don’t want to miss!

In order to hear what Kandi had to say about staying relevant in today’s world and why she thinks the 90’s is superior we reached out directly to her team for comment. Keep reading below to find out what she said!

Kandi’s Reflections On The 90s

Kandi has a special connection with the 90s. She remembers it as an era of more freedom, when anything seemed possible. Growing up in that time period and having her career start during it, she can’t help but look back fondly on those days.

“It was such a different atmosphere,” Kandi says nostalgically. “Music was less restrictive, people weren’t so focused on appearances, and there wasn’t this same pressure to be perfect.” She explains that being relevant then didn’t require all of the flashy graphics or intense marketing campaigns like now; instead, you had to prove yourself musically and lyrically.

Although music has changed drastically since the 90s, Kandi still believes in the importance of staying true to one’s artistry without sacrificing their authentic sound just to fit into what is popular today. After two decades in the business, she knows how hard work and dedication are essential for success regardless of which era you’re living in.

Strategies For Staying Relevant

Staying relevant in today’s ever-changing music landscape is no easy task, and Kandi has her own strategies for success. “You have to be creative with your approach,” she explains. “Think outside the box and come up with new ways to reach out to people.” Additionally, Kandi emphasizes that it is important to stay current on trends but also not forget what made you unique in the first place.

Kandi believes that collaborating with other artists can help create a buzz around an artist while also exposing them to different fan bases. She also stresses the importance of engaging directly with fans on social media platforms. A great way to do this is by participating in challenges or giving away merchandise as prizes for participation. This helps build relationships between the artist and their supporters which will ultimately keep them relevant long term.

These methods have worked incredibly well for Kandi throughout her career, allowing her to remain at the top of the industry since bursting onto the scene decades ago. She constantly finds innovative ways to engage audiences from all over the world without compromising her identity as an artist — clearly a sign of true staying power!

Conclusion

The 90s was a unique time. It had its own style, sound and culture that Kandi loves so much. Despite the nostalgia for this era, she also understands that it’s important to stay relevant in today’s ever-evolving music industry. She has embraced modern technology and continues to perfect her craft by collaborating with new producers, creating fresh content and pushing herself out of her comfort zone.

Kandi is an example of how you can keep up with trends while staying true to yourself at the same time. She recognizes what made the 90s great but knows when it’s best to innovate and make something new. With her drive and passion, there’s no doubt that she’ll continue to be successful in whatever she does going forward.

Whether you’re a fan of hers or not, we should all take inspiration from Kandi and strive to find our way between honoring tradition while still moving ahead with progress. Her words remind us why many people look back fondly on the past while looking forward with excitement towards what lies ahead.
