R&B singer Avant recently released his sixth studio album âThe Letterâ via Verve Forecast. The set, lead by the first single âKiss GoodBye,â is ânothing newâ says Avant but is based on âissuesâ in his life. âWhen your writing a letter you try to put all the juicy stuff inside the letter so thatâs what I try to do for my fans, just give them some material,â Avant tells Blacktree TVâs Sound Check. âItâs nothing new under the sun but it feels like itâs new to me because itâs coming from myself and itâs different issues that I like to deal with.â As far as his approach for this sixth album, Avant says he just tried to be âreal Honest.â âDoing this album, it was more like not trying to sound like the previous albumsâ¦I got nieces and nephews so I try to figure out what their listening to and I also have to be real honest with myself and my fan base as well because thatâs who really hones in and love your music and will go out and purchase your music,â Avant says. Avant, who had the backings of major labels for most of his albums before going with the mid-level Verve, says itâs âtrickyâ to reach a younger audience but it can be done. âItâs tricky but itâs notâ¦because this new world, they donât have a set way of things,â he says. âThere really exceptingâ¦I donât want to say nonsense, but anything. In doing so you can get them to gradually understand the truth of real music.â âIn sitting down and singing to these young people or getting them to understand the music, then I think we can pull them back into whatâs real in music,â Avant says about bridging the gap between his old and young audience. âIâm not saying what there doing is not right, itâs truly right, itâs just I grew up on the Babyfaceâs of the worldâ¦this is how you deal with real life issues.â Source
