After announcing that she had the autoimmune disease lupus earlier this week, plus filing for bankruptcy for a second time last month, R&B diva Toni Braxton has something great to celebrate. The âUnbreak My Heartâ Grammy-Award winning diva will be honored at the upcoming 3rd Annual Winter Ball on Saturday, December 4 at the Delta Air Heritage Museum in Atlanta, GA, for her community service with Autism Speaks. Dubbed the Phoenix Rising tribute, the notoriety recognizes honorees that have all demonstrated resilience and an ability to thrive in challenging times. Also receiving an honor will be the American Heart Association and Martin Luther King III for his global humanitarian efforts and work as President of the King Center. CEO Terrinee Briggs remarks, âWe selected our 2010 honorees because of their story. Both Toni Braxton and Martin Luther King, III have been through many trials and tribulations but have maintained their commitment to the community and their passion to help othersâ¦they never gave up, they bounced back and we felt they should be honored for that.â V-103âs Nina Brown will host the black-tie gala.
